CNC Training at the Fred W. Buhrke Training Facility
TMA is excited to announce a brand new hands-on CNC Training Program at the Fred W. Buhrke Training Facility in Arlington Heights. The CNC program will be taught by industry experts and will eventually have three different courses centered around two new HAAS CNC machines: an ST-10 Lathe and a VF-2YT 5-Axis Mill. Each course will be an intensive 16-week training program. The first course, set to launch on September 25th, 2012, will focus on the set-up and operation of CNC machines. The second course, which is still in development, will focus heavily on machining and programming, and the third class, also in development, will be devoted entirely to 5-Axis machining.

The first course features a specialized curriculum with new part drawings. Students will be prepared to acquire NIMS CNC credentials after completing the course. Class will meet twice a week with both classroom (theory) and lab (hands-on) instruction. The course will have a rolling registration with a new class forming every eight weeks. The first course combines theory and hands-on training in set-up, operation, and programming of a CNC mill and CNC lathe. A large emphasis will be placed upon developing safe work habits to operate CNC machines. After successful completion of this course, students will be able to demonstrate skills in programming, set-up and operation, and manufacture small parts using a CNC lathe and mill. Course contents include the following:

Coordinate system
Program planning and structure
Spindle speeds and feed rates
Linear and circular interpolation
Canned cycles
Tool nose and cutter compensation
Threading and Subprograms

TMA is extremely grateful to the following members who have supported this new facility through donations of machinery, equipment, tooling, materials, and money. TMA would like to recognize these members:

TMA is still accepting donations to the training center. Items such as parallels, drill chucks, lockable storage systems, precision measuring tools, tool carts, work benches, and safety mats would be welcomed. Also, any left-over material stock that fits the following dimensions for ongoing project work would also be greatly appreciated. Please consider donating them to the CNC Training Program at the Fred W. Buhrke Training Facility in Arlington Heights.

1.5 diameter round bar stock, aluminum or steel (or any other material)
2.5 diameter round bar stock, aluminum or steel (or any other material)
.500 or .750 (thick) x 3.000 (wide) x 4.000 (long) flat stock any material)
Finally, if your company has any other miscellaneous machinery/tooling/equipment that would make a good addition to the new CNC Training Program (a Bridgeport would be great!), or if you would like to sponsor other items or make a monetary contribution, please contact Patrick Osborne, Director of Education at posborne@tmanet.com or 847.825.1120 x 1346 and we can discuss in more detail.
